The Cup pessary without supporting membrane is designed for use in cases of first-degree or mild second-degree uterine prolapse, providing gentle support where a lighter pessary option is appropriate.

Made from medical-grade silicone, the cup pessary offers a comfortable and effective solution for managing early-stage prolapse, while remaining easy to fit and manage. The open design, without a reinforcing membrane, makes it suitable where minimal internal support is required.

For patients requiring additional support, or where symptoms include cystocele or stress urinary incontinence, alternative options such as a cup pessary with support or a urethral shell pessary may be considered, depending on clinical need.

Insertion & Removal

Insertion

The pessary is gently folded and inserted into the vagina, where it unfolds and positions to provide support. The cup shape helps it remain in place through light suction, while the supporting membrane provides additional lift. Correct sizing and placement are essential to ensure comfort and effectiveness. Initial fitting should be carried out by a healthcare professional, who may provide guidance on independent management where appropriate.

Removal

To remove, gently break the suction by pressing a finger against the rim of the cup before easing it downward and out of the vagina. Removal frequency should follow clinical advice. The device should be cleaned regularly and reviewed periodically to ensure continued suitability and vaginal health.

Indications & Key Features

The Cup Pessary with Support is designed to provide enhanced internal support for women with pelvic organ prolapse. Its cup-shaped design creates gentle suction to aid retention, while the integrated supporting membrane offers additional lift and stability where greater support is required. Made from soft, medical-grade silicone, it is flexible, durable and suitable for clinical use.

It is intended for professional fitting and clinical management, and is suitable for mild to moderate uterine prolapse and cystocele. It is not intended for the treatment of stress urinary incontinence.

What is a vaginal pessary and what is it used for?

A vaginal pessary is a removable device placed inside the vagina to support pelvic organs. It is commonly used to treat pelvic organ prolapse (such as cystocele or rectocele) and stress urinary incontinence. Pessaries provide internal support to relieve symptoms and improve comfort without the need for surgery.

Is a pessary a safe alternative to surgery?

Yes, pessaries are considered a safe, conservative, and reversible treatment option for many people with prolapse or stress incontinence. They are often recommended as an alternative to surgery or while waiting for surgical treatment. Modern pessaries are typically made from medical-grade silicone and are designed for long-term use under professional guidance.

How do I know which pessary type and size is right for me?

Choosing the correct type and size is essential for comfort and effectiveness. A healthcare professional, such as a gynaecologist or women’s health physiotherapist, should assess your condition and fit the pessary properly. They can also show you how to insert, remove, and clean it safely.

What is a Cup Pessary with Support used for?

This device is used to manage mild to moderate uterine prolapse and cystocele, providing additional internal lift through its supporting membrane.

How is this different from a Cup Pessary without support?
